QR (Quick Response) codes are 2D matrix barcodes that can store a variety of data types. They’re perfect for linking the physical world to the digital — scan, and you’re instantly connected.
✅ Data capacity:
- Numeric: up to 7,089 characters
- Alpha/Numc: up to 4,296 characters
- Binary (8-bit): up to 2,953 bytes
- Kanji: up to 1,817 characters
✅ Error correction (ECC):
QR codes can be built with error correction so even if scratched or partially damaged, they still work. Levels range from L (7%) to H (30%) redundancy.

Type 1: 96 bytes – cheap, expandable to 2KB
Type 2: 48–2048 bytes – most common (stickers, cards, badges)
Type 3: 1KB, high-speed, used in transit systems
Type 4: 4KB+, secure, supports authentication (access cards)
NTAG213 / 215 / 216:
• 213 = 144 bytes (URLs, short data)
• 215 = 504 bytes (gaming, Amiibo)
• 216 = 888 bytes (max for consumer projects)
